RARE Vintage 50s Penney's Horsehide Windward-style Motorcycle Jacket

  
This is a rare and beautifully designed Penney's jacket from the 1950s. The label reads Penney's Genuine Horsehide. " The style, often referred to as "Windward, is a more subtle and elegant version of the mid-twentieth century motorcycle jacket, appropriate for any occasion.

This jacket is in amazing condition -- The horsehide leather is strong, yet flexible, with no damage that we can see. All zippers (main zipper and two pocket zippers) are original and work well. The condition of the diamond pattern quilted lining was excellent when we acquired the jacket, except for wear at the top of the back.

We had a top professional leather jacket restorer apply a yoke of soft, color-matched suede, improving not only the durability of the lining, but also its look and feel. This "Size 18" jacket would not fit a size 18 woman today, however. It's probably more like today's size 14.

We began collecting vintage motorcycle jackets years ago. We bought jackets that had "good bones, " meaning great leather, quality workmanship, and excellent design.

Many years later, in our retirement, we are no longer collecting. Now, we are downsizing and offering our jackets for sale. In addition to finding great jackets and jackets with the potential to be restored, we enjoyed researching motorcycle jacket makers and the materials they used, and searching for the best available vintage replacements for unrepairable parts. We wanted all the jackets in our collection to retain their vintage character.

We also wanted them to be functional and sturdy, ready to be worn again and to stand up under use. All our jackets have been cleaned and conditioned, and those needing more attention have been repaired by top notch vintage leather jacket specialists.
