Vintage 1962 Warren Paper Co Lithograph Of Thurston 1925 Portrait, Deadstock
Rare Vintage Warren Paper Company 1962 Watermarked Lithograph Reproduction of the Famous Howard Thurston 1925 Portrait. Each year, Warren Paper Company had promotional products that were put together to show the quality and depth of their ink printing techniques on different types of their papers. These promotional items were then given to their customers around the United States. In 1962, Warren decided to be the first company to reproduce a famous magic poster, Thurston's 1925 portrait. They used their Olde Style, which was an eggshell, or antique, finish paper specifically made for book production, including illustrations. Olde Style and Warren are watermarked on the back of the paper. The poster was reproduced in exactly the same size as the original (30x20) with the same printing process (stone lithograph)and colors, and on an even better paper than the original. The Howard Thurston Portrait Poster is such a high quality reproduction that it has been mistaken for the 1925 poster.
The only giveaway is the "Warren Paper" watermark that is visible when the poster is held up to the light. Apparently a stack of these posters were found in a warehouse in the mid-80s and distributed throughout the magic community.
The colors of the poster are so beautiful and transfixing, especially with the eggshell finish. The photos you see were taken by me at night with no photography lighting in a normally lit room that generally does not yield this kind of outcome. I did this to really show off the detailing, shading, and colors that have remained vibrant for over 60 years!!
